Fashion Over Reason: February 2010

Saturday, February 27, 2010

There is such realness and intimacy in these photos. I suppose that's what makes Charlotte Gainsbourg so appealing. There's an honesty and accessibility about her, yet she seems so otherworldly that you don't quite know what to make of it. A true icon.

Like a sheet of paper

Bonnie Parker

With all of the editorials that surface and go around on the web before they're actually released in print, it becomes very difficult to be surprised when you finally do see them in the glossy pages. For obvious reasons, i hold off on peeking at the stories that will appear in the magazines that i purchase and reserve the web viewing for the bibles that i won't be able to get my little paws on. So imagine my delight upon flipping the pages of the March issue of Harper's Bazaar US and seeing Anna S. dressed as the über-chic Bonnie Parker. I fell in love on the first page: the setting, the vibe, the styling, the model! Call me old-fashioned, but these types of stories really inspire me.

The 70's Bonnie, incarnated by the beautiful Faye Dunaway.

Oui oui ma chérie!

It's as though you can almost feel and smell the crisp air emanating from these images. Isabeli is the embodiment of chic in this frenchie-inspired editorial. Also, this is making me really excited for Paris fashion week!

The uniform

The school-boy blue, the big gold buttons the shrunken and impeccable cut. Emanuelle carries it off with such ease, i have really nothing else to say about her easy, effortless, casual elegance.

Wang's battallion

It's kind of like the legion of honor, isn't it? Every muse in their look. And i'm just loving Rose's steeze here, she really stands out, proving that she's bursting with personality.

You people work on commission, right?

I've really been taking full advantage of this chilly climate to sport my beloved fur coat. It's seriously the ultimate layer of coziness. We went to pull some looks at Aldo for a photo shoot and upon exiting the store we couldn't help but snap some photos. I sort of felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. Wicked moment.

I'm young and I'm hip and so beautiful

Raquel, her golden skin, the liquid metal Ralph Lauren jumper-dress, the white straw bench... It's all making me extremely eager for the warmer months ahead.

Black on black on black

Freja doing what she does best: being cool. Monochromatic never looked so good.

Decked out in fur at Diesel. Swoon.

While i'm at it, have an amazing weekend everyone!

Very much inspired by the 70's vibe from the fall 2010 runways, i threw together my very own Penny Lane interpretation.

Cleaning out the closet

Sure, we all have skeletons lurking around... Can you believe this?! A chubby, pre-posh, pre-beckham, early 90's Victoria. This shit it AMAZING.

Miss Chung

Not gonna lie, i quite enjoyed Alexa's Madewell collection. I thought it was simple, fun and very her, which was ultimately the point, no? I must say, i liked the look she was wearing the best.

One and one and one is three

This trifecta of models are among my favorites: Alana, a seasoned veteran (and Canadian beauty) whose praises i've sung before right here, Karmen, a well-established girl and Jac, one of my darling newbies (i hope she does Paris this season!). Not only are they all completely gorgeous and amazing models, but their off-duty style is flawless. Case in point.

Thought i'd share with you what i did this past sunday. In true Canadian spirit, this girl laced up her skates, braved the cold and had a an absolute blast.

You make a grown man cry

What a beauty.

I know i'm obsessed...

But he was the [sic] real: a genuinely talented man. Soulful, deeply English and, of course, dark. He did have a dark, romantic side that surfaced in his collections. Depressed at times? I didn’t know him well enough to say so, but I would imagine he had his moments of despair. This is a tough business, and as tough and brash as he often appeared, he was, as Mr. Treacy said, a sweet and sensitive person.

Bearer of light

I feel like a teenager with a crush. Phillip Lim, i knew you wouldn't let me down! You've been one of my favorites since the start of your 3.1 label and your consistent ability to make me lust for all of your pieces every season makes me giddy with excitement. Thank you. PS I love you.
