Fashion Over Reason: March 2010

White flag

Some of you may know that Solve Sundsbo is one of my all time favorite photographers. And some of you may be aware that Jac is one of my favorite rising [fashion] stars. Combine the two and beauty has no other choice but to ensue. I fell in love immediately - the touching sophistication emanating from the screen was the perfect amount of delicate and won me over instantly. I cannot wait to see these in print.

The in crowd

Some of my favorite fashion people.

The Legend

The Naomi-only edition of Vogue Russia (April 2010) has been released and there's no denying that the woman makes some incredible photographs.

This feels like the perfect outfit for the spring days that await me. Katharine Hepburn is a well of inspiration that knows no bounds.

My heart nearly stopped when i laid eyes on this completely epic editorial. Karlie Kloss will no doubt become a legend, she is truly a seriously outstanding model. Shot by Lachlan Bailey for Numéro.

Barney's Co-op

This catalog makes me rethink the whole cheese factor connotation that usually goes hand in hand with these types of photos.

She's a lady

Meredith Melling Burke, American Voguette and high society privileged, is here easy elegance just the way i dream it.

Portée disparue

My dear readers, i have been MIA due to a schedule overload, but never would i forget about you :)

Kim Noorda, Dutch goddess

I was shocked and very much taken aback upon reading this food diary held by Kim Noorda about her eating disorder. I suppose you never think that the big time models are afflicted by this painful obsession and that only the ones who are starting off and impressionable succumb to the pressures of this thinner-the-better industry (such as all the models coming forward with allegations against Terry Richardson, which by the way i always got the predator vibe from him - he's always given me the creeps). Anyway, if you don't plan on purchasing April's American Vogue, you MUST read this article about Kim's obsessive thoughts about something as trivial as food. I've always loved her, but now i'm rooting for her.

Empire state of mind

These shots are mesmerizing.

The great one

She never ceases to amaze me.

I'm so delighted to have Sigrid back in the game. She's so gorgeous, it was treat to see her on the catwalks during fashion month. This picture conveys such emotion - the grey skies, the neutral top, the long golden flowy hair, the pure complexion - stunning.

Stylist's take

Theory has gone the genius route. Not necessarily because their pieces are so timeless, classic, elegant, easy and chic (although all these attributes help), but because they have asked a handful of amazing and influential stylists to do their thing with the spring collection and put the looks up on their website in such a way to "shop the look" by stylist! I know, genius.

Here are some of my favorites:

Annabel Tollman - Isabel Dupré

Istvan Francer - Jessica Diehl

Susan Joy - Leslie Fremar

Karin Nelson - Kate Young

Rock 'n roll

Music is in my blood: i come from a family of musicians and incredibly artistic people and have played almost all of the instruments you can think of. My influences over the years have mostly stemmed from musicians (my first love was Kurt Cobain) and although i wish i could sing, i just can't... which is why - wait for it - i'm a complete sucker for musicals or any type of movie related to song and dance. Especially when it's a biopic. Although i can hardly stand Kristen Stewart (i try to refrain from negativity on this blog, but she is relevant to this post), i am so ecstatic about The Runaways. And it's incredibly strange to see Dakota Fanning all grown. 70's rock chick attire? Yes, please! Anytime.

Alright my darlings, i am Toronto bound this weekend! I haven't been in ages and a group of my girlfriends spontaneously decided to go. Seeing as we're all getting older, it seems like it'll be the last time we can do this kind of thing and be all together. Anyway, i leave you with this little number and i wish you all a wonderful weekend!

I love Eva Herzigova. In fact, she's in my top 3 favorite 90's supermodels (Amber Valetta and Helena Christensen complete the trifecta). It makes me really happy when i see her in editorials, she's just so incredibly gorgeous. Especially when she's set in a beautiful parisian apartment. That view!

You know you got it going on

I'm so crazy for this look. Rock chic at its finest - are we really surprised?! Plus those shoes are so incredibly sexy (send those Pigalle Louboutins my way, please!), i'm going a little mad over the pointy-toe comeback!

The blondes

Perhaps i'm partial to the hue, but i think there's something so alluring about long golden locks grazing the skin.

Yes, it's true

As i have been mentioning recently, i'm coveting the ability to pull off long skirts (in jersey, specifically). I've always had a motto that went something like "the shorter, the better" but (maybe it's my old age - i kid, i kid) i am seriously thinking about going for longer styles. This FW10 Anne Valérie Hash closeup is definitely making my mouth water.

Grand exit

Such great style at such a young age! She's really impressive, this little Frida. She has me completely sold.

Truth be told, i'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal. It's pretty much my uniform, albeit with tweaks here and there. But really, there's nothing more comfortable than worn-in blue jeans and a so-used-it's-so-soft t-shirt, especially when acts as a second skin. Nothing sexier, either. How to make it stylish you ask? All you need is messy bead head and a fabulous leather trench with a fur collar. OH! And a killer pair of shoes never hurt either. Bingo.
