Here's to 2013!

Well folks, another year has gone by and it just seems that time keeps going by faster and faster. Don't know about you guys, but my year 2012 was quite exceptional. Hopefully 2013 treats me the same, if not better (is that too much to ask?!) and let's make sure to enter it with a bang, shall we? Happy New Year to you all and enjoy your night, wherever you may be.

Bundle Up

So we're in Canada for the holidays and the weather did not disappoint, Great White North style. Yesterday was the first storm of the year and we got a couple feet -- the only problem now is having to navigate the sidewalks until the city cleans them... I have to admit, i am SO HAPPY that this scenario is no longer part of my daily winter reality. While it's great to have snow for the holiday season, it's not something i enjoy past that, let alone for 5 months. This brings a whole new meaning to bundling up. For all my fellow Quebecers, stay safe out there.

Happy Christmas!

Every family has a different holiday tradition and mine happens to be christmas eve, like many most french canadians. It's where the big dinner overabundance of food happens (what we call the révéillon), the presents, the champagne, the whole shebang. This was my festive look from last night, and then below a little glimpse into the festive mood that i am struck with every december.

The dress is Chloé (similar here, here & here)and i'm wearing a little aubergine velvet belt from Joe Fresh (similar here) and the boots are my trusty old companions from years ago that i just cannot part with and have had resoled a million times (very similar ones here)

Dear Santa

Merry Christmas my dear readers! And if you're not one to celebrate ye ol' birth of christ, enjoy this time off and the joyfulness of the festive season. For my part, if you're a long time reader, you probably know that i am a Christmas afficionado. It's my absolute favorite time of year and i've been known to, at times, go overboard get really into it. Although the gift thing isn't what i look forward to -- i'm all about family time, food overload and decorations -- i absolutely love giving presents. But here's a little wish list of what i would hope santa would bring me this eve. Anything in particular you guys are wishing for?

1. Kate: The Kate Moss Book
2. Gap wide brim hat
3. Alexander Wang Sofia boots
4. Ray-Ban 3025 aviators
5. Givenchy Antigona tote
6. J.Crew Vintage pajama set
7. Rag & Bone Harrow booties
8. Dannijo Harper earrings

Neutrals, Details

Neutrals are some of the most important items you can find in your closet. Even if you're the type of person who dies for beautiful showy patterns or who'd rather go bright than light, you can surely attest to the undeniable fact that no wardrobe is complete without a few pieces whose beauty lies in their very subtlety. Those classic colors that go with everything and anything, the shades that will elevate any other piece you match them with, the pigments that can also classify as unpigmentented, the hues that are more class than sass, i could go on... And when you zero in on those details, you really grasp how important neutrals really are.

Second Skin

There's really something to be said about slipping on the perfect leather jacket. Ideally, it should feel like a second skin. Some like them simple, with a collar or without, some enjoy them in different texture, others prefer theirs in a fun color. Whatever your choice, you know that it's the ultimate wardrobe staple and that it would be hard to live without.

Beanie Baby

I kind of adore Jules' style - she always has a unique twist on things, yet embodies that laid-back, california cool we all know and love. I'm also always one for a good beanie and this is a winning look in my books.

Poncho Player

Ponchos are an ideal layering piece. They're warm, cozy and stylish, plus they're kind of perfect during the pre-snow season -- what more could one need? I love mine in particular because it's reversible so i can switch it up and cater to my sartorial mood. It's made of wool for warmth, has practical pockets and gorgeous leather trims to add that extra je ne sais quoi.

Oversized knit cardigan - Joe Fresh
Skinny cords - Rag & Bone
Shoes - Frye
Snood - Gap

I love me a good topper and currently i'm going nuts for the wide-brimmed variety. Below, 3 different ladies, 3 different ways.

Saturday, December 1, 2012

Ok you guys, i have a serious confession: i haven't actually had a real winter coat -- think parka -- since, like, well... EVER (as an adult). And i'm from Canada. I know, a travesty, right? How could i survive those frigid Canadian winters from years past with nary a feathered garment? I've managed to make layering an art form and got by with a simple (uninsulated) wool military coat. And quite frankly, i can attribute this to never finding a style i enjoyed, even less so wrap my head around "investing" in a run-of-the-mill-see-you-on-every-street-corner Canada Goose. Great if you do, but that's just not how i roll.

I decided that this past winter was the last year i could deal with being frozen. I thought my search would be much more tedious and unfruitful than this, but turns out i found the perfect jacket just this past week: neutral color, not flashy, classic, could be both sporty and city, will look great equally with galoshes and high heels, and more importantly, it's WARM. Found it at J.Crew and it's by Woolrich. If, like me, you are in the same predicament, i urge you to consider this parka.

Get it here!

It's That Time of Year

I apologize for this weekend's minor hiatus -- my mom was in town for Thanksgiving so instead of bogging, i was taking in some quality time.

Back to business! SO -- with today's forecast of snow/slush (eww), it appears that the time is almost here, if not already: break out your furs, ladies. I heard that it was supposed to be one of the coldest winters in 50 years, which is enough of a threat to make me want to start hibernating for real. Below, fur done in the most chic manner - Ashley Olsen, Karmen Pedaru (love you girl!) and miss Olivia Palermo for a touch of uptown class in this downtown mix.

Plaid Craze

There's lots happening on the plaid front as of late and i'm really, really into these Tibi trousers. You with me?

Ps happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends!

Hey Sunshine

Classic, cool, chic. Beautiful Kendra Spears in Vogue Paris. Two elements i never tire of: Ray-Ban aviators and a timeless military pea coat.

Long Jacket

Where in the past i would reach for my leather jacket like a second skin come fall, its short length has somewhat made it less appealing to me this year. Don't get me wrong, i still see it as a warm, comforting blanket (is that weird?!), but it just is seeing a little bit less sunlight this year, as i've suddenly gotten a keen eye for longer numbers. For some reason, they feel so fresh and new. Certainly, this is a fashion illusion, but i'm happy to be taking my other, usually more neglected, lengthy options out for wear this season.

Coat Check

I love the fall, we all know it and we all love it, yes yes yes. That statement may be redundant, but bear with me, i swear i have a point. Here goes: the between-season coat! Finding the perfect one can prove problematic: getting the right weight of jacket at the right time is almost an art form (hyperbole?). You see, the month of September is too cool to go sans, but too warm to say, reach for your sleeveless fur vest (too early! still too mild! major sweating would ensue!). Come November, your favorite funky fresh Acne denim jacket is probably past its seasonal expiration date, but will you be comfortable enough in your unlined and uninsulated leather bomber? Can you just add a tuque and call it a day? Yes, i actually sit there and think of these things. Don't pretend like you don't.

This Club Monaco look and coat below might actually be a great solution to this age-old problemo (no use in undermining it). It looks like it could be worn as early as October and by layering a cozy sweater unerneath, will take you right into December when frigidity begins and you have to actually bust out your Canada Goose or your Moncler, depending on which side of the pond you hail from. Glad we got that figured out.

The Darkness

This Mario Sorrenti Italian Vogue story is so inspiring. Nadja Bender, one of my favorite new models - she's amazing - looks every bit the gothic glamazon she's embodying. The dark and gloomy images are making me want to dress all in black, all the time.

Look Ma, No Sleeves!

By night, another look from the city of love. Casual, but elevated thanks to some classic pumps and a comfy silk scarf. I apologize for the red eye, but there truly is nothing i can do about it.

Hope you guys have a nice weekend! After all the crap that has happened in the Tri-State area, we are finally in store for some nice days ahead.

Of course, you ALL know that i am beyond obsessed with Kate Moss and this image is so g o r g e o u s! The eye makeup is nothing short of perfection, while the sultry lip makes it even sexier. And those cheekbones!

By the way, if you aren't yet following my Kate Moss look book, there is no time like the present.

Quilted Leather

Quilted leather: i'm obsessed. It's such a fresh take on the quintessential leather jacket and i'm dying to get my hands on one. This new detail definitely justifies the purchase, me thinks. Right?!?

Riding the Train

Going out to a casual dinner in Paris, the mercury had seriously dropped by that point and i decided that i wanted to favor cozy over crazy -- so instead of reaching for the usual stilettos, i opted for my decades-old trusty Chuck Taylors and didn't look back. I then proceeded to force my husband to "subtly" take my picture in a crowded rush hour Parisian metro car. You're welcome!

Pea coat - H&M
Cashmere knit - Ralph Lauren (stolen borrowed from the hub)
(P)leather pants - Tripp NYC
