Here's to 2013!

Well folks, another year has gone by and it just seems that time keeps going by faster and faster. Don't know about you guys, but my year 2012 was quite exceptional. Hopefully 2013 treats me the same, if not better (is that too much to ask?!) and let's make sure to enter it with a bang, shall we? Happy New Year to you all and enjoy your night, wherever you may be.

Bundle Up

So we're in Canada for the holidays and the weather did not disappoint, Great White North style. Yesterday was the first storm of the year and we got a couple feet -- the only problem now is having to navigate the sidewalks until the city cleans them... I have to admit, i am SO HAPPY that this scenario is no longer part of my daily winter reality. While it's great to have snow for the holiday season, it's not something i enjoy past that, let alone for 5 months. This brings a whole new meaning to bundling up. For all my fellow Quebecers, stay safe out there.

Happy Christmas!

Every family has a different holiday tradition and mine happens to be christmas eve, like many most french canadians. It's where the big dinner overabundance of food happens (what we call the révéillon), the presents, the champagne, the whole shebang. This was my festive look from last night, and then below a little glimpse into the festive mood that i am struck with every december.

The dress is Chloé (similar here, here & here)and i'm wearing a little aubergine velvet belt from Joe Fresh (similar here) and the boots are my trusty old companions from years ago that i just cannot part with and have had resoled a million times (very similar ones here)

Merry Christmas my dear readers! And if you're not one to celebrate ye ol' birth of christ, enjoy this time off and the joyfulness of the festive season. For my part, if you're a long time reader, you probably know that i am a Christmas afficionado. It's my absolute favorite time of year and i've been known to, at times, go overboard get really into it. Although the gift thing isn't what i look forward to -- i'm all about family time, food overload and decorations -- i absolutely love giving presents. But here's a little wish list of what i would hope santa would bring me this eve. Anything in particular you guys are wishing for?

Neutrals, Details

Neutrals are some of the most important items you can find in your closet. Even if you're the type of person who dies for beautiful showy patterns or who'd rather go bright than light, you can surely attest to the undeniable fact that no wardrobe is complete without a few pieces whose beauty lies in their very subtlety. Those classic colors that go with everything and anything, the shades that will elevate any other piece you match them with, the pigments that can also classify as unpigmentented, the hues that are more class than sass, i could go on... And when you zero in on those details, you really grasp how important neutrals really are.

Second Skin

There's really something to be said about slipping on the perfect leather jacket. Ideally, it should feel like a second skin. Some like them simple, with a collar or without, some enjoy them in different texture, others prefer theirs in a fun color. Whatever your choice, you know that it's the ultimate wardrobe staple and that it would be hard to live without.

Beanie Baby

I kind of adore Jules' style - she always has a unique twist on things, yet embodies that laid-back, california cool we all know and love. I'm also always one for a good beanie and this is a winning look in my books.

Poncho Player

Ponchos are an ideal layering piece. They're warm, cozy and stylish, plus they're kind of perfect during the pre-snow season -- what more could one need? I love mine in particular because it's reversible so i can switch it up and cater to my sartorial mood. It's made of wool for warmth, has practical pockets and gorgeous leather trims to add that extra je ne sais quoi.

Poncho - Suno
Oversized knit cardigan - Joe Fresh
Skinny cords - Rag & Bone
Shoes - Frye
Snood - Gap
Bag - Bottega Veneta

Parka

Ok you guys, i have a serious confession: i haven't actually had a real winter coat -- think parka -- since, like, well... EVER (as an adult). And i'm from Canada. I know, a travesty, right? How could i survive those frigid Canadian winters from years past with nary a feathered garment? I've managed to make layering an art form and got by with a simple (uninsulated) wool military coat. And quite frankly, i can attribute this to never finding a style i enjoyed, even less so wrap my head around "investing" in a run-of-the-mill-see-you-on-every-street-corner Canada Goose. Great if you do, but that's just not how i roll.

I decided that this past winter was the last year i could deal with being frozen. I thought my search would be much more tedious and unfruitful than this, but turns out i found the perfect jacket just this past week: neutral color, not flashy, classic, could be both sporty and city, will look great equally with galoshes and high heels, and more importantly, it's WARM. Found it at J.Crew and it's by Woolrich. If, like me, you are in the same predicament, i urge you to consider this parka.
