Last Hurrah

There's a time and place for everything and the countryside is the ideal backdrop for throwing on those used & abused (in a good way) denim cutoffs. While i just mused about fall's arrival in the previous post, i had to give summer one final rebuttal: being upstate again this weekend to bring closure to the warm season, cutoffs are at the very core of my wardrobe essentials. However, they get swapped for their long leg counterparts (jeans) when the sun goes down, cause whether you're ready for it or not, you feel the chill as soon as those rays disappear.

PS how fitting that this would be the last day of August?! Bring it, September.

Le Chalet

Another long weekend, another trip Upstate! As mentioned earlier, I'm here for Labor Day and I've just arrived -- feels so good. Looking forward to some R&R, the spa, nature walks and quality time with family. Crisp, Upstate fall air is just divine, in a chicken soup for the soul kind of way.

Fancy Mesh

My new pal Ian and I took to the streets of Chelsea a couple of weeks ago to take advantage of the beautiful natural backdrop the historically-rich NYC streets so graciously makes available to us. Not a bad change from my usual selfies, wouldn't you say? Anyway, the sporty trend is still in full swing and a way to do it in a less literal way is with elevated pieces that have mesh details. I fell in complete love with this silk and mesh tank from Julia Jentzsch's fall collection, but what first attracted me to it was the navy/black color combo: one of my all-time favorite pairings. When put together with this wrap skirt and my trusty mesh Stella McCartney sandals, the look, in my humble opnion, made for the perfectly subtle sporty-chic vibe. I also need to talk about how obsessed i am with this Emm Kuo python crossbody bag. Like, OBSESSED.

PS Ian photographs all sorts of events and does all kinds of photgraphy work (headshot needed, perhaps?) and he's great so feel free to reach out to him.

The Bag

Earlier this month, i brought you The Boots, and now i bring you The Bag. I am definitely NOT a handbag person. If you're a dedicated reader of this blog (thank you!) you certainly must have noticed that the same one is consistently flung over my shoulder (i'll take this moment to apologize for the lack of diversity in that area). But this Victoria Beckham beaut has sure caught my attention: love love love the color -- nice change from black, yet still incredibly versatile -- as well as the super modern chain strap and the sleekness (read: timelessness) of the design.

Cottage Life

I mentioned on Friday that we were going up to our cabin for the weekend so i wanted to share few snaps with you guys. I didn't really take many pics unfortunately, but the weather was so beautiful and the whole thing was so relaxing, we didn't really do much... it was basically a lot of hammock chillin, starting the September Issues (capital letters) reading marathon, playing frisbee with the pooch... speaking of, at the risk of this blog becoming a shrine for my dog Wally, a miniature Australian shepherd (#wallyface on instagram and vine), i can't resist - and you'll see why - featuring him a little bit here. We'll be headed back for Labor Day so hopefully i'll be more trigger happy with the camera and will be able to give you more of an idea of how beautiful upstate New York is. And then it was back home to Brooklyn, where the striking Manhattan skyline greeted us like an old friend.

Baby You Can Drive My Car

I've been coveting a pair of Tod's driver moccasins for years and years but haven't taken the plunge yet. I will one day, as it's on my eternal must-have list. HOWEVER. I recently came across the Bottega Veneta drivers and they're such a strong contender... I would take any of these any day, especially the blue and the ostrich. Such a perfect transitional weather shoe! Picture it: loose tee, skinny distressed cropped denim, leather bomber and cross-body bag with these beauts on your paws. Ideal? I think so.

Style Secrets

When Lucky Magazine and Seventh Generation invited me to discuss my natural style secrets* (#AllNaturalStyleSecrets) and try out their new skin serum, it was kind of a no-brainer, because while i totally admire women who live by the moto "More is More," it just couldn't be further from my personal truth. When people ask me to define myself or my style, the words Unfussy, Simple and Natural immediately spring to mind -- it's kind of how i approach everything. The overused coined catchphrase of "Effortless Chic" is admittedly something I aspire to on the daily. I mostly wear basics that i try to elevate with subtle details, whether it's a sequined blazer, cuffed hems, disheveled hair or a beautiful necklace. However, my ultimate not-so-secret style weapon is fancy footwear -- nothing reads more effortless than a simple pair of jeans and a loose tee worn with the perfect heels.

This very same philosophy also applies to my approach to beauty. I am a big aficionado for the natural look: that bare face that telegraphs unfussy cool. My makeup is always minimal, with the exception of the [very] occasional kohl rim around the eyes. But i have a confession: i was not genetically blessed with a perfect complexion. It's always been one of my biggest struggles and obsessions. Ever since i can remember, i've enviously (and awkwardly) over-stared at those girls with that ideal dewy, glowing, blemish-free, naturally unflawed skin. I'll take, and need, all the help i can get. My skin is incredibly sensitive and will break out at the mere thought of trying a new product so i have to be really careful. The Seventh Generation serums are all-natural, plant-based, as well as free of harsh preservatives, which won me over from the get-go. Skin care is a real challenge for me because of my irritability so i need to be extremely rigorous about it. Going to bed without removing my makeup is something i could never, ever consider.

Seventh Generation Boosts Firming Serum

If Seventh Generation's skin boosting serum could help me achieve looking better as a stripped-down version of myself, i couldn't pass it up. Because at the end of the day, my natural style secret, my strategy for looking effortless, is to simply aim for a better, elevated version of myself. And here's a little fun video i made to demonstrate all of what i just talked about.

Hawaiian Print in the City

I wore this out a few weeks ago for drinks -- Hawaiian print to hang out in the city, i kind of loved the dichotomy. These shorts were handed down to me as old oversized pants from my roommate years ago and i took scissors and a cheese grater to them and made them into the perfect distressed shorts. Complete with a radio active pout and my new favorite Nina Riccis, which both contributed to elevating this look to friday evening standards.

LCCC+FOR Photo Diary

Sadly this is the last installment of the LCCC+FOR posts until the next time we meet (november, get ready!) and rounds out the rest of my Montreal photos. As previously mentioned, a moment with this gal is a never a dull one -- we happen to be on the exact same wavelength and our style/fashion/beauty banter never ceases, whether we're chillin with C-dawg, toy poodle extraordinaire, exasperating her tender half with too much shop talk, enjoying lunch on a patio, making dinner (see our delicious communal effort homemade seafood orzo paella) or fun summer beverages in the form of muddled blueberry-mint lemonade. See it all below!

Pastel Party

Told you i had some more fun LCCC+FOR Montreal adventures to share with you! Steph and i took her ridiculously adorable toy poodle, Chloe, down by the water for an afternoon walk and didn't skip a photo opp beat. Late summer offers the perfect weather to be wearing long sleeves and legs comfortably, but it's fun to maintain that crisp feel with fresh pastels. Having overdosed on july's scorching heat, these cooler temps were a welcomed change. However, looking back on these, it's quite obvious that my crisp goal could've used a few strokes of ironing... my bad.
