As you may or may not know, I'm not one for big statement jewelry and accessories. I don't like overbearing necklaces, heavier-than-thou earrings and would never feel like myself sporting an arm party.
I do, however, enjoy myself a fun silk neck scarf. This one is a vintage Liberty of London number bought by my mom in the 70s and I use it to spruce up any plain look. It's served me well over the years and now even more so that the 70s are back in action.
Totally realize that I look like I'm about to go fight in the ring (what ring you ask? Good question.) and I kind of like it. I blame this awesome recent Zara purchase (total Valentino knockoff, I know, head in shame). You guys know how I love to play with proportions and I've always has a particular penchant for loose tops, so here you have it. They best part: it's an outfit composed of navy and black. I realize that the colors aren't exactly contrasting in these photos, but trust that this awesome structured linen tunic is as navy as they come.
There's nothing I love more on Sundays than to sleep in, make brunch, cuddle with my boys and then do something productive around the house. I have an ongoing to-do list of things that I need to get done -- work-related tasks notwithstanding -- and I tend to try to check things off of that list on Sundays. It truly is the best way to transition into Mondays.
For example, today I unpacked from my Cali trip, I broke a personal laundry record (6 loads, my friends. My husband said I was like 14 year-old boy, ha), I washed all my makeup brushes, I paid some bills and finally put up the burlap cork boards I ordered off Etsy a few weeks back and got to sorting through my springtime inspiration. Below is the progress and the final result. Super fun, highly recommend getting one of these! Who doesn't love to kick it old school with live in the flesh Pinterest boards?
It's a sad day when you have to leave a place that is going to reach a high of 86 degrees F (that's 30C) for a place that still has snow on the ground. But such is life and I love my city, so back to big apple I go. California, trust that I'll be back very shortly because I love you.
Just a quick hello from sunny, beautiful LA! Been here all week, first for pleasure and now work, and I gotta say, it's gonna be hard going back to the very bashful spring in New York.

I am typing this as I bask in the California sunshine and it feels rather hypocritical to be posting a look that couldn't be further from my current reality. But the fact of the matter is, it's still winter out there and the cold weather is a much more real depiction of my life and style than the LA weather I'm now experiencing (and which will be short-lived).
So here you have it yet again: my stay-warm strategy encompasses fur and giant beanies. It's always a tad colder up high on the roof, but when you're bundled up as I am here, the views are worth it. And, might I add, they are far better during the summer. That said, I am feeling less than enthused about heading back to the Northeast... And will be until the temps over there match the West Coast ones.
I've said this before and I'll say it again: I could never survive winter without looking like a yeti that just crawled out of a cave. It's the most guaranteed way to keep warm. Especially in a city like New York that can get so frigid, with wind cutting through the buildings and bouncing off the concrete. Instead of hibernating, I take extreme measures.
Gallivanting about the streets of Soho (avoiding Broadway, duh) is a Sunday afternoon activity that we're quite keen on. It's a great day to explore, as Sundays are relatively quiet, to window shop (or real shopping, whatevs), or to grab a brewski. We usually end it by stopping in at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's to stock up on food for the week. It just those types of days of pure bliss that start with no expectations but that lead to really great times.

One of the things that I've always had strong feelings about is how undeniable our very strong emotional connection to clothes is. There's something about each garment in our closets that harbors a memory, that is attached in some way to a time, a place, a person, a smell that brings us down a path of souvenirs when we wear them, look at them, run our fingers through the material...
It's no wonder that some people have a very hard time purging their closets. How can one willingly rid themself of all of those good (or even bad) times. Isn't that essentially a symbolic way of turning your back on your past? It's always interesting to see what people hold on to and what the reasons behind that refusal to let go are. As a person who lives and breathes fashion, having strong emotional attachments to clothes does not escape me -- while some of my clothes are of no particular importance to me, others are incredibly charged with memories.
The funny thing is, unless it's a piece that's been passed down to me from my family, it isn't that difficult for me to let go. My husband and I cleared out our closets this weekend and we both got rid of the shirts we wore on our first date. It was amusing because we both found ourselves trying them on at the same time and realized they were the tops we had donned on the encounter that was the beginning of our love story. We had a laugh before quickly coming to a conclusion: those tops had to go.
I'm sure you'll concede that going through your wardrobe is akin to reliving your past, in some respect. Does that mean you have trouble letting go or are you like me and enjoy a good purge?
